US President Donald Trump has revealed that Israel has agreed to key terms for a 60-day Gaza ceasefire, with Qatar and Egypt set to present the final proposal to Hamas. In a Truth Social post, Trump urged Hamas to accept the deal, stating, “It will not get better — it will only get worse.”
The announcement comes ahead of Trump’s planned meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week. Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon confirmed Israel’s willingness for a truce but accused Hamas of “playing hardball.”
He warned that if talks fail, Israel will escalate military efforts to free the remaining 50 hostages, about 20 of whom are believed alive. The war, triggered by Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack (1,200 killed in Israel), has claimed over 56,600 Palestinian lives, per Gaza’s health ministry. Recent violence includes an Israeli airstrike killing 20 in Gaza City and evacuation orders in northern Gaza.
A January ceasefire deal previously collapsed, and the GHF aid group faces scrutiny amid allegations of Israeli forces targeting civilians—claims Israel denies.
