A train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar in Pakistan’s Balochistan province was attacked by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) on Tuesday, leaving several passengers injured and six Pakistani military personnel dead. The train, Jaffar Express, had around 500 passengers on board when it was fired on between Gudalaar and Piru Koneri areas.
The BLA claimed responsibility for the attack, stating they seized control of the train by derailing it and took over 100 passengers, including active-duty personnel, into custody. However, there was no independent confirmation of their claim. The group warned that if the Pakistan military launches an operation, “all hostages will be executed”.
Rescue teams and security forces have reached the scene, and an operation is underway to track down the assailants. Emergency has been declared in local hospitals, and security sources said the operation will continue until the elimination of the last terrorist.
This incident is the latest in a series of attacks in Balochistan, which has witnessed an uptick in terrorist attacks over the past year. The BLA is banned in Pakistan, the UK, and the US.
