Relocated From Pantha-Chowk, Batamaloo Wine Shop Sealed Following Public Outcry

Authorities sealed a relocated liquor outlet in Batamaloo on Friday after sustained protests from residents and traders, who opposed its operation in the religiously sensitive area. The shop had been temporarily shifted from Pantha Chowk for Amarnath Yatra arrangements.

The decision came after widespread condemnation, including from religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who termed the relocation “culturally insensitive.” Locals and traders celebrated the move, calling it a victory for community sentiment. “This preserves our area’s social harmony,” a protester told KNT.

The administration acknowledged public concerns, citing the neighborhood’s “emotional and religious sensitivity” as key factors in reversing the decision. (Source: KNT)
