Police Arrests UAPA Suspect from Pampore Using Facial Recognition Tech at Ganishbal X-Ray Checkpoint

Police in Anantnag detained Muneeb Mushtaq Sheikh, a wanted suspect linked to a 2021 UAPA case, after facial recognition technology flagged him at the Ganishbal X-Ray checkpoint on Sunday.

Sheikh, a resident of Pampore’s Drangbal area, was identified through J&K Police’s FRS system and later confirmed to have an active FIR (No. 28/2021) under anti-terror laws. He is accused of involvement in explosive-related activities.

The arrest underscores the force’s increasing reliance on digital surveillance to track down suspects. Authorities have intensified tech-aided operations across Kashmir to curb militant movements. (Source: JKNS)
