In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Awantipora Police arrested a woman drug peddler and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substances in Tral. Acting on a tip-off about drug presence in a residential house at Pinglish, a police team led by SHO Tral Inspector Ab Rashid conducted a raid under the supervision of SDPO Tral.
During the search operation, authorities recovered 7 kg and 400 grams of poppy straw from the possession of the accused, identified as Shazia Hussain, wife of Hussain Ahmad Wani, a resident of Pinglish Tral. The accused was immediately arrested and taken to Police Station Tral, where she remains in custody. A case (FIR No. 102/2025) has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and investigations are underway.
Awantipora Police have urged citizens to report any drug-related activities or criminal behavior to the nearest police station. “We appeal to the public to cooperate with police in eradicating the drug menace from society,” a police spokesperson said. “We assure strict action against criminals as per law.” The arrest underscores the police’s continued efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
