Following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley that killed 26 people, Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained 75 individuals under the Public Safety Act (PSA). The crackdown is part of an expansive investigation led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), with raids and search operations continuing across Kashmir and parts of Jammu. Over 2,000 people have been questioned, and extensive searches have been carried out in multiple districts.
Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) V K Birdi confirmed that 75 people have been booked under the PSA, a preventive detention law allowing incarceration without formal charges for up to two years. Security agencies have identified key suspects linked to the attack and busted overground worker networks. The NIA’s investigation has expanded into the Chenab and Pir Panjal regions of Jammu, indicating a wider militant footprint.
The Pahalgam incident has raised concerns over tourist destination safety in the Valley, prompting intensified security around major resorts and pilgrimage routes. The authorities are working to bring those responsible for the attack to justice and prevent future incidents. The PSA detentions aim to prevent potential threats and maintain law and order in the region. The investigation is ongoing, with the NIA leading the probe.
