The National Conference-led alliance in Jammu and Kashmir has issued a stern warning to the Centre, cautioning against undermining the authority of the democratically elected government. In a high-stakes meeting, the alliance conveyed a clear message to New Delhi and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha: cooperation should not be mistaken for weakness.
The meeting was convened in response to growing tensions between the LG administration and the elected government, with the alliance expressing frustration over repeated bureaucratic interventions in political matters. Tanvir Sadiq, the party’s senior legislator, emphasized that the alliance’s coordination with the Lieutenant Governor and New Delhi should not be misread as a sign of political weakness or submission.
The alliance passed two significant resolutions during the meeting, condemning the passage of the controversial Waqf Bill and demanding that the Centre respect the democratic mandate of Jammu and Kashmir’s people. Congress legislator Nizamuddin Bhat reiterated the demand for political respect and institutional integrity, asserting that the sanctity of the legislature must be preserved.
