The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its probabilistic rainfall forecast for July 2025, predicting uneven precipitation patterns across Jammu and Kashmir. According to the forecast, Jammu region along with parts of south and central Kashmir are likely to receive above-normal rainfall during the month.
In contrast, north Kashmir is expected to experience normal precipitation levels. The disparity in rainfall distribution could have significant implications for agriculture, water resources, and disaster preparedness in the region. Farmers in areas expecting above-normal rainfall may need to adjust their cropping schedules, while authorities in north Kashmir will need to plan for typical monsoon conditions.
The IMD’s probabilistic forecasting system provides valuable lead time for contingency planning. Residents and officials are advised to stay updated with daily weather bulletins as the monsoon progresses. Such forecasts are particularly crucial for flood-prone areas of Jammu and avalanche-sensitive zones in Kashmir valley.
