Jammu and Kashmir Police today arrested a Haryana resident for attempting to bypass Amarnath Yatra security checks using a counterfeit registration card. The accused, identified as Shivam Mittal of Yamunanagar, was apprehended at Baltal base camp after officials detected his forged credentials during mandatory verification. Authorities confirmed Mittal had fraudulently obtained the fake yatra permit to evade the multi-layered security apparatus.
Police have registered FIR No. 13/2025 at Sonamarg Police Station and launched a detailed investigation into potential forgery networks. “This was a serious breach attempt. We’re determined to maintain the pilgrimage’s sanctity,” a senior officer stated.
The security establishment has urged pilgrims and locals to remain vigilant, providing dedicated helpline numbers (PCR Ganderbal: 9906668731, Baltal JPCR: 9541786752) to report suspicious activities. This marks the first major interception of fake yatra documentation during SANJY-2025, prompting enhanced scrutiny at all checkpoints. (Source: JKNS)
