Kashmir Valley Records Hottest June in Decades, Climate Patterns Shift

Srinagar, July 1*: June 2025 has emerged as one of the hottest summer months in Kashmir’s recorded history, with Srinagar and Qazigund witnessing unprecedented temperature spikes, according to data analyzed by independent forecaster Kashmir Weather.

Srinagar recorded an average temperature of 24.6°C—the highest since 1978 and the second hottest since observations began in 1892. The city’s average maximum reached 31.0°C, while nights remained unusually warm at 18.2°C. Similarly, Qazigund logged a 23.2°C mean temperature, matching 1978 levels and nearing its all-time high of 23.7°C (1973). Both locations showed consistent deviations from historical norms, with minimum temperatures persistently elevated.

Experts attribute this trend to long-term climatic shifts, noting recurring warm patterns since the 1970s. The data underscores growing weather variability in the Himalayan region, with implications for agriculture, water resources, and ecosystem stability.
