Kashmir Resident Arrested in UP For Alleged Te°rror Links

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested Ulfat Hussain, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, on charges of anti-national activities. The arrest was made on Friday based on intelligence gathered by the ATS and allied agencies, which indicated Hussain’s alleged involvement in militancy.

Hussain was wanted in connection with a 2001 case involving charges of attempted murder, Arms Act violations, and Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) violations. He was also linked to the recovery of a cache of weapons and explosives in 2001, including an assault rifle and hand grenades.

Investigations revealed that Hussain is allegedly a member of the Najab Jahanuddin terrorist organisation and had received militant training in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) from 1999 to 2000. He was reportedly planning a major terrorist incident before his arrest.

A permanent warrant was issued for Hussain’s arrest this year, and a reward of Rs 25,000 was announced. The ATS investigation is ongoing.
