The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has dismissed a habeas corpus writ petition filed by Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, a former president of the High Court Bar Association and an accused in the Babar Qadri murder case. Qayoom was arrested by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) on June 25, 2024, and was found to be the main conspirator behind the murder of Babar Qadri, a young lawyer who was killed by terrorists in 2020.The SIA had gathered sufficient evidence implicating Qayoom in the case, and the court upheld his arrest and subsequent remands. The trial and proceedings in the case were transferred to Jammu from Srinagar due to threats and intimidation faced by the deceased’s family members in Kashmir.
