The Jammu and Kashmir government has taken swift action against unauthorized mining by relieving Joint Director of Geology and Mining, Jammu, H L Langeh, of his duties. This decision was made in response to growing concerns over environmental damage and financial losses to the state.
Langeh has been attached to the administrative department, effectively revoking all his powers with immediate effect. The government’s move is aimed at preventing further unlawful extraction of mineral resources and ensuring that mining regulations are enforced strictly.
The director of geology and mining has been instructed to submit a detailed report addressing complaints about illegal mining and the issuance of disposal permits. This report will facilitate further investigation and corrective action.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary emphasized that this move serves as a clear warning that the government will take strict action against any official found negligent or involved in illegal activities.
