Imran Khan, the jailed former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in promoting human rights and democracy. This nomination comes from the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA), an advocacy group founded last December, in collaboration with the Norwegian political party Partiet Sentrum.
Khan, 72, has been recognized for his work in Pakistan, and this is not his first Nobel Peace Prize nomination. In 2019, he was nominated for his efforts to promote peace in South Asia. The Norwegian Nobel Committee receives hundreds of nominations each year and selects the winner through an eight-month process.
Currently, Khan is the founder of Pakistan’s main opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and has been incarcerated since August 2023. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison in January for misuse of authority and corruption, his fourth major conviction. Khan denies all charges, calling them politically motivated.
