Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Yatoo today confirmed schools will reopen as scheduled on July 7, dismissing demands to extend the 15-day summer break despite persistent heatwave conditions in the Valley.
“The academic calendar must be respected,” Yatoo stated, adding that weather forecasts indicate temperatures will moderate after July 4. The break was instituted on June 23 following unprecedented heat that disrupted classroom activities.
While acknowledging climate challenges, the Minister emphasized the importance of syllabus completion, leaving open only a contingency review if extreme conditions persist beyond the scheduled reopening date. The decision comes as Kashmir records its hottest summer in recent years.
