The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has sparked public outrage due to repeated errors in textbooks, particularly a Class 5 Economics book on Disaster Management. A misprinted sentence in the textbook read, “Unconsciousness or fainting is a UT of Human body,” when it should have said, “State of Human Body.” The mistake appeared multiple times within the book, including a reference to “UT” instead of “state” leading to the victim’s death if not treated. Despite the existence of an editorial board responsible for proofreading, the errors were not caught before publication. The textbooks are also available online with the same mistakes. Social media users expressed frustration, questioning the board’s quality control. Political figures, including MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para and PDP leader Naeem Akhtar, also criticized the errors, calling it a “tragicomedy.” Users pointed out similar mistakes in other textbooks, questioning the work ethic and responsibility of JKBOSE officials. The errors have raised concerns about the board’s credibility and its ability to provide error-free educational materials.
