The Uttarakhand police have filed an FIR against Hindu Raksha Dal leader Lalit Sharma for his inflammatory remarks against Kashmiri students in the state. Sharma had given a 10 am deadline for Kashmiri students to leave the state, threatening to “deal” with those who didn’t comply. The police have charged him under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for promoting enmity, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult.
The remarks were made in a video statement that went viral on social media, sparking fear among Kashmiri students in the state. The police have taken action, removing 25 objectionable posts from social media and increasing security measures to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students. Uttarakhand ADG (Intelligence) AP Anshuman assured that the police would ensure the safety of all Kashmiri students in the state.
The incident has sparked concern, with many Kashmiri students expressing fear for their lives. Some students had already left the state before the authorities took action. Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah condemned the incident, saying “Kashmiriyat Under Attack, But We Stand United” after an all-party meeting. The Uttarakhand police have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone uploading objectionable content on social media.
