A gunfight broke out between security forces and militants in the dense Akhal forest area of Devsar in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday. Officials confirmed that a joint operation was launched by the Army, police, and CRPF following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the region.
A senior police official told the Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that contact was established with the hiding militants during the search operation, triggering an exchange of gunfire. “The encounter is ongoing, and further details will be shared as the situation develops,” the official said.
The area has been cordoned off as the operation continues. This marks the latest in a series of anti-militancy operations in the Valley amid heightened security measures. More updates are awaited. (Inputs from KNO)
