An elderly man drowned after slipping into a deep stream in Boniyar area of Baramulla district on Monday. The victim, identified as 65-year-old Alim Din Tinda from Chotali village, was reportedly walking near the waterbody when he lost his footing and fell in. Local residents and police immediately launched a rescue operation, retrieving his body within an hour.

The body was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced Tinda dead on arrival. Police have registered the case under Section 174 CrPC (unnatural death) and initiated standard procedures. Forensic experts will determine the exact time and circumstances of death, though preliminary observations suggest no foul play.

This incident highlights the dangers of unguarded water bodies in Kashmir’s villages, especially for elderly residents.

It marks another drowning case in Baramulla district this monsoon season. Local authorities have announced plans to install warning signs near hazardous streams while urging families to accompany elderly members near water sources. (Source: KNC with police inputs)
