BSF Constable Goes Missing in Srinagar; Massive Search Operation Underway

A 24-year-old Border Security Force (BSF) constable deployed in Srinagar has been reported missing since Wednesday evening, triggering a large-scale search operation by security forces. According to Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), Constable Sugam Choudhary, posted with the 60th Battalion’s ‘C’ Company at Panthachowk headquarters, was found absent without leave around 5 PM on July 31. Despite combing operations at key transit points like Panthachowk Bus Stand, Taxi Stand, and Srinagar Railway Station, there has been no breakthrough so far. A formal missing persons report has been filed at Panthachowk Police Station.

Choudhary, hailing from Sikhera village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahar district, is the son of the late Devendra Kumar. Described as fair-skinned, 174.5 cm tall, with black hair, the jawan showed no signs of distress before his disappearance, officials stated. His family has been notified, and authorities are exploring all angles—from voluntary disappearance to foul play.

The incident has raised concerns, given Srinagar’s sensitive security environment. While standard protocols are being followed, the lack of clues has intensified the probe. A joint effort between BSF and local police is underway, with forensic and technical teams likely to be roped in if the search remains fruitless. Updates are awaited as investigations continue.
