Body of Uri Boy & Girl Retrieved from Jhelum in POK, Bodies Returned Through Border

The bodies of two Uri residents, Yasir Hussain Shah and Asiya Bano, who drowned in the Jhelum river, were handed over to Indian authorities by Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) officials via the Kaman Post bridge in Uri on Saturday. The two individuals had jumped into the river 18 days ago and their bodies were recovered from different locations along the Line of Control (LoC).

According to officials, Yasir’s body was spotted near Kaman Post on March 20, but strong currents drifted it to the other side of the border. His body was eventually retrieved from Chinari on Thursday evening. Asiya’s body, on the other hand, was recovered at Chattar on March 19.

A meeting was held at Kaman Post, Uri, where officials from the Uri administration, Indian Army, and parents of the deceased were present, along with their counterparts from the other side. After medico-legal formalities, the bodies will be handed over to their families.

It’s worth noting that both individuals had been missing for over two weeks after jumping into the river Jhelum in Dulanja village along the LoC on March 5.
