Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, the MP from Srinagar, has accused the BJP of creating an “anti-Muslim theatre” with Kashmir as its central theme. Speaking at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, Mehdi alleged that the BJP is using Kashmir as a tool to garner votes from its hardcore Hindutva supporters.
Mehdi claimed that the BJP’s narrative is designed to portray Muslims as powerless and submissive. He emphasized that Kashmir, with its Muslim majority population, is the biggest scene in this theatre. Mehdi’s remarks were a reference to the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August 2019.
The MP also criticized the National Conference’s role in mobilizing the masses post-2019, stating that political leaders must take on the mantle of “people’s resistance.” He urged MLAs to unite for an organized movement, rather than failing to do so.
Furthermore, Mehdi highlighted the implications of the abrogation of Article 370, saying that even people struggling with basic necessities like food and employment will applaud the BJP’s rhetoric on Kashmir.
