As Assembly Rejects His Amendments on Article 370, Sajad Lone Stages Walkout

People’s Conference leader Sajad Gani Lone walked out of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly after his motion to include amendments, including the restoration of Article 370, was dismissed by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather. Lone had proposed seven amendments to the Lt Governor’s address, but five were rejected. The rejected amendments included demands for the restoration of Article 370, repeal of the Public Safety Act, a probe into the 1987 poll rigging, police verification, and addressing recent civilian killings.

The speaker argued that the House had already passed a resolution on special status and that some issues were beyond the state government’s control. Lone criticized the National Conference, saying they had highlighted these issues during their election campaign but were now silent on them after forming the government. He accused the government of trying to muzzle him and expressed dissatisfaction with the speaker’s response.
