Another 13-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Jhelum River, Second Such Tragedy in Baramulla This Week

A 13-year-old boy, identified as Arsalan Moshook of Jahama, drowned while bathing in the Jhelum River on Tuesday afternoon. This marks the second such incident in Baramulla district within a week, reigniting concerns about river safety. Local authorities immediately launched a search operation, with police and SDRF teams combing the waters to recover the victim’s body.

The tragedy comes just days after a 16-year-old drowned near Sopore’s Jamia Masjid on June 26, whose body was recovered after a three-day search. Residents have demanded urgent safety measures, including warning signs and barriers along vulnerable river stretches.

“These preventable losses must stop,” a local community leader told JKNS, as grief-stricken families await recovery of the latest victim.
