After Scorching Heatwave MeT Department Predicts Heavy Rainfall, Issues Advisory

The Meteorological Department has issued a three-day alert for moderate to heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir from July 6-8, with warnings of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Intense showers are predicted particularly in Jammu division during nighttime hours, potentially causing waterlogging. Farmers have been advised to halt irrigation activities during this period.

The alert follows Srinagar’s record-breaking 37.4°C temperature on Saturday – the highest July reading since 1953. While scattered rains may continue until July 10, hot and humid conditions are expected to return from July 11.

Authorities have urged residents in sensitive zones to remain vigilant for possible landslides and shooting stones. (ANH)
