Midnight excavation by a JCB inside Shiapora’s community graveyard has triggered widespread condemnation in Baramulla, with police arresting both the contractor and machine operator for the sacrilegious act.
The illegal digging, discovered by villagers around midnight on July 7, prompted immediate police intervention. Authorities seized the JCB and registered FIR No. 124/2025, while the absconding driver was apprehended Tuesday morning.
“This violates our deepest religious sentiments,” lamented local elders, as the incident raised questions about oversight of construction activities near sacred sites. Investigations continue to determine the motive behind the nocturnal operation.
