A young man drowned in the River Jhelum near Jetty Khawaja Bagh on Sunday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Uzair Ahmad Ganaie (22), son of Mohammad Arif Ganaie, a resident of Sherwani Colony, Baramulla.
According to eyewitnesses, Ganaie accidentally slipped into the river while near the banks.
Local authorities immediately launched a search operation, but the strong currents hampered rescue efforts. This marks the third drowning incident in Baramulla district within a week, raising concerns about safety along the riverbanks.
