ACB Arrests Police Officer, Driver for Accepting Bribe

The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested PSI Murtaza Rehman, the in-charge of the Police Post at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, and his driver, SPO Himanshu Sharma, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 13,000. The bribe was allegedly demanded from a street vendor for allowing him to run a mobile kiosk at the exit gate of GMC Jammu.

The ACB received a complaint against Rehman and Sharma, alleging that they had demanded illegal gratification from the vendor. A discreet verification confirmed the demand, and a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. A trap team was constituted, which caught the duo red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. The bribe money was recovered from their possession.

The ACB team arrested Rehman and Sharma on the spot after following due process of law. Searches are being conducted at the residential houses of both accused in the presence of independent witnesses and Magistrates. Further investigation is ongoing to uncover any potential larger implications. The ACB’s action demonstrates its commitment to tackling corruption in Jammu and Kashmir.
