Mehbooba Mufti Calls Hindus to Standup Against ‘Waqf Amendment Bill’

Mehbooba Mufti, President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has vehemently opposed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, calling it a deliberate attempt to target the Muslim community. She urged Hindus to stand up against this “oppressive move” by the BJP government and warned that if such policies continue, India could face internal divisions similar to those in Myanmar.

Mufti accused the BJP government of creating an atmosphere of fear through mob lynchings, demolition of mosques, and attempts to take over graveyards. She emphasized that India should function according to its Constitution, not a divisive agenda. Mufti also drew a parallel between the current situation and the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, stating that history should not repeat itself with Muslims.

The BJP claims the bill aims to ensure better management of Waqf properties, but opposition leaders argue it’s another move to suppress minority rights. Mufti has also written to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu, urging them to oppose the bill, stating it comes at a time when Muslims have been systematically disenfranchised, disempowered, and marginalized.
