After NIA Now Delhi Court Dismisses Bail Plea of Incarcerated MP Engineer Rashid

A Delhi court has rejected the bail application of Engineer Rashid, a Lok Sabha MP from Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla, in a militant funding case. Rashid has been in Tihar jail since 2019, arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Rashid’s lawyer had urged the court to grant him bail to attend the ongoing Parliament session, but the NIA opposed the plea, arguing that Rashid’s status as an MP should not be used to “get away from rigours of imprisonment” ¹. The NIA also stated that Rashid, being a “highly influential” person, might influence witnesses.

The Delhi High Court is set to consider Rashid’s plea on March 25. Rashid is facing trial for allegedly funding separatists and militant groups in Jammu and Kashmir. The case against him includes charges of criminal conspiracy, waging war against the government, and sedition.

Rashid’s arrest and trial have been a significant development in the case, which has been ongoing since 2017. The NIA’s opposition to his bail plea highlights the seriousness of the allegations against him.
