Designers Shivan and Narresh have apologized for their fashion show in Gulmarg, which showcased “obscene” garments during the holy month of Ramzan. The duo claimed their intention was to celebrate creativity, but they regret any hurt caused by the event. They posted a statement of apology, acknowledging concerns and promising to be more mindful and respectful in the future.
The controversy sparked widespread criticism, with Kashmir’s chief priest, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, calling the show “outrageous.” Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah ordered an inquiry into the matter, stating that the government would not have given permission for such an event. Abdullah emphasized that the images from the show demonstrated a “complete disregard for local sensitivities” during the holy month.
Social activist Raja Muzaffar Bhat condemned the event, describing it as an attempt to undermine Kashmir’s moral and religious values. Other social media users expressed similar outrage, questioning how the event was allowed to take place during Ramzan. The Chief Minister clarified that the event was a private party at a private hotel, and no permission was sought from the government. If laws were violated, strict action will be taken, he assured.
