A regional reporter for a Hindi daily, Raghvendra Bajpai, was fatally shot by bike-borne assailants on the Sitapur-Delhi National Highway in India. The 35-year-old journalist was commuting on his motorcycle when the attackers opened fire, striking him three times in the shoulder and chest. The assailants then fled the scene on their motorcycle.
Bajpai was rushed to a nearby hospital with the help of local residents, but was pronounced dead on arrival. His family reported that he had received threatening phone calls in the days leading up to the attack.
The police have launched an investigation, collecting evidence and sealing the district borders to apprehend the perpetrators. They are also analyzing call details and pursuing other legal proceedings. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
