Srinagar, Mar 06 (KB): Peoples’ Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti, joined by many of her party leaders, staged a protest against Leader of Opposition for making insidious remarks on July 13 martyrs.
Talking to media persons, Iltija as per news agency Kashmir Bulletin, said that, “they (July 13 martyrs) galvanised a political consciousness, a political movement in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.”
“It was for the first time, where people were awakened and galvanised, and any attempt to sully their memory, to distort history, or to take away from their dignity and respect will not be tolerated by us,” said a charged Iltija, flanked by party leaders and activists.
On being told the expunging of remarks by Speaker, Iltija said “We are very happy that the Speaker expunged the insidious remarks, but that is not enough, we demand the BJP LoP Sunil Sharma tenders an unconditional apology.”
Iltija also demanded that the resolution billed by PDP passed in the House and that this holiday be observed again.
Notably, the protest comes a day after Leader of Opposition from BJP Sunil Sharma passed on remarks terming the July 13 martyrs as ‘traitors’ after PDP legislator hailed their legacy and demanded restoration of the holiday on the event date. (KB)
