Masoodi Alleges Malpractice in Rs 401 Crore Saffron Mission

Allegations of malpractice have rocked the Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly, with legislators demanding a thorough inquiry into the Rs 401 crore National Saffron Mission (NSM). The mission, launched in 2010, aimed to boost saffron production in Kashmir by introducing modern techniques, improving irrigation facilities, and enhancing overall saffron yield ¹.National Conference MLA Pampore Hasnain Masoodi and MLA Kulgam Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the implementation of the scheme. They urged the government to probe whether funds were misused or the project was mishandled. Agriculture Minister Javed Dar acknowledged the concerns and assured the House that the department was examining the matter.The NSM has faced reports of project failures, mismanagement of funds, and failure to achieve desired results, raising doubts over its execution. The government’s response to the allegations will be crucial in addressing the concerns and ensuring transparency in the mission’s implementation.
