Srinagar Police Arrests Robbers Posing as Special Police Commandos Along With Toy Guns

Srinagar Police has arrested robbers who had been posing as Special Police Commandos and looting trucks during night hours. Dummy guns, vehicle, black uniform and other incriminating items used in the commission of crime have also been seized.

On 22/02/25, Police Station Shalteng received a complaint from a driver namely Chanchal Singh son of Sher Singh resident of Haryana to the effect that during night hours on 22/2/2025, some unknown persons stopped his vehicle at Maloora Shalteng and looted his money and other valuables by brandishing guns at him. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 15 U/S 307, 126(2), 3(5) was registered in PS Shalteng and investigation initiated.

Soon after the incident was reported and cognizance was taken by Police, various police teams started intense search. With strenous efforts of Police utilizing technical (ESU West) as well as human intelligence, few phone numbers and suspects were zeroed in during the course og investigation and four accused persons were identified and apprehended from the city along with incriminating material. The accused persons have been identified as Sahil Ahmad Sheikh son of Mehraj-u-din Sheikh resident of Narakh Budgam, Aqib Ahmad Sheikh son of Mehraj-ud-din Sheikh resident of Narkarah Budgam, Arbaz Ahmad Wani son of Hilal Ahmad Wani resident of SD Colony Batmaloo and Faisal Ahmad Shah son of Azad Ahmad Shah resident of Nowhatta. All the accused persons have been arrested.

The material and devices which include two dummy guns, nine Mobile phones, Swift vehicle, ATM cards, currency notes along with Black uniforms have been recovered from their possession.

The Modus Operandi of the accused perosn was to target trucks mostly bearing outside of UT registration numbers during night hours in desolate places along highways and then rob the drivers of cash and valuables including ATM cards etc by brandishing dummy guns.

Pertinent to mention here that the arrested accused persons are history sheeters with involvement in multiple FIRs in different Police Stations of the J&K.
