5 Persons Held for Assaulting Kashmiri Student in Karnataka

Five senior MBBS students from Al-Ameen Medical College in Vijayapura, Karnataka, were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly ragging and assaulting a second-year student from Kashmir. The incident occurred during a cricket match between the 2019 and 2022 MBBS batches, where the victim, Hamim Ghulam Bhat, was ordered to leave the ground by his seniors. When he refused, he was forced to perform humiliating acts, verbally abused, and later assaulted in his hostel room.

The accused students, identified as Mohammed Zainul, Sameer, Shaik Sawood, Mansoor Bhasha, and Muzzaffer alias Mujeeb Jamadar, were booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Karnataka Education Act, 1983. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has condemned the incident and urged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take strict action, emphasizing the need for stronger anti-ragging measures and strict legal consequences for the accused.
