Number of Militants, Recruitment Down in J&K : Army chief

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has sent a strong message to Pakistan, stating that India is now assertive enough to respond if provoked. Since 2014, India has conveyed that it “means business” and will be aggressive if required.

General Dwivedi highlighted the impact of the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, which has led to a significant reduction in local terrorists and recruitment in Jammu and Kashmir. The decision reflected India’s “no compromise” approach, emphasizing that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.

The Army Chief also noted that the region has witnessed a shift from “terrorism to tourism,” with over five lakh pilgrims participating in the Amarnath Yatra. This success is attributed to collaborative efforts between security forces, law enforcement agencies, and the government.

Regarding Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir, General Dwivedi joked that they are “stuck in their own world” and unable to back down from their claims. He humorously compared Pakistan’s situation to a scene from the movie Guide, where a character announces a fast until it rains, illustrating Pakistan’s inability to move forward.
