A 17-year-old boy drowned while bathing in Nigeen Lake today, later retrieving his body after hours of search operations. The victim has been identified as Faizan Amir Sheikh, son of Amir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Noor Colony, Noorbagh in Srinagar.
According to officials, the incident occurred when Faizan and friends went for an evening swim. Witnesses reported seeing him struggle before disappearing underwater. Local fishermen and SDRF teams launched a rescue operation, recovering the body after hours.
Police have issued fresh warnings about swimming in unsupervised areas of Dal/Nigeen lakes, where strong currents and sudden depth changes make bathing hazardous. The body has been shifted to SMHS Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
