In a daring midnight heist, thieves stole 136 sheep from a communal enclosure in Zirh Chak Yurkhoshpora, dealing a crippling blow to multiple families in Churt village.
The livestock, owned by nine local shepherds including Saddam Gujjar, vanished without trace before three animals were later recovered in nearby areas. Police suspect professional rustlers executed the operation, given the scale and stealth of the theft.
“The recovered sheep had likely escaped during transport,” a local source told KNT. Investigators are probing possible interstate smuggling links.
This marks South Kashmir’s largest livestock theft this year, with the stolen herd valued at over ₹20 lakh. Authorities have formed special teams to track the culprits. (Source: KNT)
