In a major breakthrough, Anantnag Police on Friday arrested three individuals carrying illegal arms and ammunition during a naka (checkpoint) operation in Krad Ranipora, thwarting a potential terror attack. A joint team comprising Police Station Uttersoo, SOG PC Chittergul, 19 Rashtriya Rifles, and 96 Battalion CRPF had set up the checkpoint near Panchayat Ghar Krad. When security personnel signaled an Alto 800 car (coming from Kard towards Ranipora) to stop, the driver attempted to flee but was swiftly intercepted.
The arrested individuals were identified as Waseem Rehman and Eahsan Akram (both from Midoora, Tral, Awantipora) and Ishfaq Ahmed Bhat (from Koil, Pulwama), the driver. A search led to the recovery of weapons and ammunition from their possession.
Preliminary investigations indicate the trio had procured the arms from the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and were planning an attack in the region. Further probe is ongoing. (Inputs from KDC)
