02-Yr-Old Girl Di’es due to the Alleged Medical Negligence at GMC Anantnag, Probe Launched

A two-year-old girl’s death at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has sparked allegations of medical negligence, with her family accusing paramedical staff of disregarding doctors’ orders and mishandling her treatment.

Pakeeza Shakeel from Kulgam’s Adal village was admitted on August 4 for an intestinal infection. Her uncle, Malik Basharat, claimed that despite doctors prescribing a test dose of Cefixime, staff skipped the precautionary step, leading to a severe reaction. “They ignored our pleas, and when her condition deteriorated, they referred her to JVC Bemina without proper medical escort,” he told Kashmir News Trust (KNT). During transit, the oxygen supply reportedly failed near Pampore, with the driver forced to reattach it.

The child succumbed late that night. GMC Anantnag Principal Dr. Arshid confirmed a committee has been formed to investigate the allegations. The probe will scrutinize treatment protocols, staff conduct, and referral procedures. This incident has reignited long-standing complaints about mismanagement and unprofessional behavior among some paramedical staff at the facility. (Source: KNT)
