Jammu Kashmir Police in Ganderbal have booked two persons for killing a stray dog in Safapora, an incident that triggered outrage on social media and among locals.
According to officials who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, a case (FIR No. 13/2025) has been registered at Police Station Safapora under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and other relevant sections of law. Both accused have been identified and taken into custody, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, said cruelty against animals is punishable under law and urged people to “treat animals with compassion and report any such incidents without delay.”
The incident has sparked renewed debate in the area over the treatment of stray animals, with many residents condemning what they called a “barbaric act.”
